Job Description:
The University of Southern Mississippi’s Department of Anthropology and Sociology invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor position, based on qualifications, beginning August 2014, to join a very collegial and active sociology program. We seek applicants who are committed to excellence in teaching and demonstrate a desire to engage a diverse student population.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. (or ABD) in Sociology is preferred, but candidates with a Masters degree and exceptionally strong teaching records will be considered. Area of specialization is open, although an ability to teach Sociology of the Family would be advantageous. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a record of high quality teaching.
We especially welcome candidates who have a commitment to teaching in a multiracial/ethnic environment with students of varied backgrounds, orientations, and learning styles, and who enjoy serving as role models and mentors for a diverse student body.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will have a 4/4 teaching load and will provide service to the program and department. He or she will teach sections of Introduction to Sociology and an upper-division course in his/her area of specialization
