The [XXXX] hire is clearly controversial. As long as nothing malicious or libelous is said, why can't we discuss the job market frankly? This is why the other board is better.

No one criticized the person hired. The issue is with (1) the hiring process and (2) the relative performance of Canadian PhDs versus American PhDs in Canadian job searches.

Feel free to discuss these issues related to hiring processes and/or US-Canadian differences as frankly as you want. Create a new thread in the "Misc Job Market Discussions" section if you're interested. We simply ask that you (1) don't hijack a "new positions," "status," or "hires" thread, and (2) refrain from specifically referencing the c.v. of a specific candidate, temporary appointment, or recent hire as a data point. Also note the name of this thread. If the desire is to be critical of hires, do it someplace else but not in this forum. As stated in the "General Guidelines": We won't hesitate to immediately delete such posts without warning or further comments.

Thank you archivist for keeping it civil.
Snarks: you lot can go and wank about this or that person, but at the end of the day, you're just wasting your time. Far better to think happy thoughts and mind your own business. This Tuesday quarterbacking is not productive, and you already know what you should be doing - that paper isn't going to write itself.
