Temporary Instructor/Assistant Professor of Social Science
Department: Division of Business/Social Science
Position Begins: August 2013
Status: 10-month, continuing position
Description: Teaching courses in psychology, sociology or other appropriate social or behavioral science and human services, advising students, maintaining office hours, engaging in appropriate institutional/community service and scholarship, and other duties as assigned.

The Division: The Department of Business and Public Service is an interdisciplinary department sponsoring courses in accounting, anthropology, business, criminal justice, economics, human services, information technology, psychology, and sociology. There are 15 full-time faculty members in the Department, each of whom has an earned doctorate.
The College : Gordon State College has served the community and region continuously since its founding in 1852, and has been a unit in the University System of Georgia since 1972. After more than three decades of serving the state as a residential two-year college, in 2006 Gordon College was named a state college and asked to develop selected four year programs to address critical state needs. In May, 2009 the College graduated its first baccalaureate class of 27 early childhood education majors. In Fall 2010 the College implemented baccalaureate majors in nursing, mathematics, and biology, and in Fall 2011, baccalaureate programs in history and English were launched. A baccalaureate program in Health Services and Information Administration was added in 2012 and a baccalaureate program in Human Services is currently being implemented. Gordon State College serves approximately 4200 students with the good work of more than 100 full-time faculty.
The Community : The main campus of Gordon State College is in Barnesville, Georgia, a lovely town located an hour south of Atlanta, Georgia. Students and faculty enjoy the pleasures of small town living together with access to the many attractions of a major metropolitan center and an international airport.
Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in a behavioral science field (e.g. Sociology, Psychology, Human Services) is required as well as potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and student advising. Experience in social service agencies such as Family and Children Services, Juvenile Justice, Hospice, or Behavioral Health is preferred
