I was wondering what might be some good sources for job advertisements outside of academia. Are there some key websites or institutions to explore? Thanks!

A non-academic job is pretty broad, there are tons of different types of jobs out there. The good news is that there are lots of different ways to go. The bad news is that there isn't a clear, structured labor market out there where you're going to find one website with all of the answers. Perhaps it would be useful for people to post suggestions on the types of non-academic jobs that one might explore with a sociology PhD and then, if possible, some resources to get started. The area that I know the best is policy research. In this field there is one website I know that lists some jobs: www.publicservicecareers.org/Particularly if you narrow it to jobs that require a PhD, most of the listings are for think tanks, policy organizations, etc. (as well as public policy faculty and post-doc positions). Besides that I would suggest looking at the websites of different organizations to look for job openings. If you have a particular area of the country in mind where you'd like to live I'd investigate within that particular area for both policy research groups as well as state government listings for research positions. As far as larger, more nationally-oriented organizations that might hire sociology PhDs here are a few off the top of my head: Urban Institute RAND Brookings Pew Mathematica MDRC Abt Associates Although I'm not in a policy research job myself I have quite a few connections to people who are. If you are interested in these types of jobs you can send me a private message through this system and (assuming I don't get overwhelmed with requests) I'm willing to share additional suggestions based upon your specific research field or desired geographic area.

If you join the Applied Sociology/Sociological Practice section of ASA they often send out sociology-friendly job ads on their mailing list. Can be a good resource.
