I have had a personal blog since around 2009. I occasionally post mediocre poetry or thoughts- nothing inflammatory or controversial, I really use it as I would writing in a journal... is this something I should think about taking down when I go on the job market?

"nothing inflammatory or controversial" You will make an excellent sociologist! Seriously, I would not worry about it too much. But, do keep in mind that when the time comes when you are on the market, people will look you up on google. And what they find will have some bearing about what they think of you.

In this day and age, I think it's difficult to find someone who doesn't have some kind of online presence. I think I'd be way more concerned about what's on my social media accounts than anything else. I would just go through your things and make sure that there's nothing that you think any potential employer might dislike. You could also make your blog private, if that's an option.
