Michigan open search failed. Michigan only allows one offer (cannot move on to a second choice). The offer was extended to someone who eventually accepted a position elsewhere. it would seem that the only way they can insure someone would would accept is to offer it to someone who they believe would consider it a "dream" job. i will make them less competitive with superstars, i think and they may have to skip the stars all together if they don't want to keep risking failed searches. maybe it'll give someone not coming from a top 20 a chance to get a job they're qualified for at a top 5 R1. i wonder if that was the administration's intent? then again, i doubt they do this in the physics department

Anyone know what's up with the strat searches at Iowa and Virginia? I gotta believe they have offers out (and maybe accepted) at this point considering their early interviews.

Did Michigan Policy have a failed search too? They were looking for a sociologist. Or did the Policy and Open offer go to the same person?

The Michigan open and Michigan policy did not go to the same person. I'm not sure if the Michigan policy candidate has accepted or not.

Congratulations to Sabrina Strings, ABD UCSD! Earlham College released her name as their new hire in a very polite rejection letter, so I assume this is public.
