The Knox College Department of Anthropology & Sociology invites applications for a full-time visiting sociology position at the assistant professor or instructor level for the 2012-13 academic year. Knox is an independent, highly selective liberal arts institution with a nationally and internationally diverse student body and a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. The department offers a joint anthropology-sociology major which emphasizes the complementarities of the two disciplines and which culminates in faculty-tutored student research.
Qualifications: PhD or advanced ABD in sociology, and experience with qualitative research methods. Candidates should be prepared to teach at the introductory level, to provide methods instruction, to offer at least one course in their specialty area, and to participate in the supervision of senior research. We will be especially interested in applicants with experience teaching writing. Persons interested in learning more about Knox may consult the College’s website and the Department’s page. In keeping with the college's 175-year commitment to equal rights, Knox actively encourages women and members of other underrepresented groups to apply.
Email letter of application, Curriculum Vitae, evidence of teaching ability (including teaching evaluations and sample syllabi for courses you have taught or would like to teach), and the names and contact information of three referees to: Amy Singer, asinger@knox.edu. We will begin reviewing applications immediately and continue until the position is filled.
