I think perhaps my experience wasn't typical but the first review took 3 months and got a conditional accept right off the bat. I took a couple of months to revise and they responded very quickly, accepting it a week later and publishing 2.5 months later.

Fast turn around time--2 months from submission to rejection. Five reviewers, 3 seemingly positive (suggesting R&R), and 2 decidedly negative. In the end, the editors sided with the negative reviews.
I was somewhat relieved with the rejection. Addressing 5 reviewers' concerns (which contrasted with one another) would have been a daunting task. After considering some of the TSQ reviewers' critiques, the manuscript is now under R&R at a slightly more prestigious general journal.
I will continue to consider TSQ as a potential publication outlet--with the hope of receiving fewer reviewers.

I have reviewed for SQ a couple of times, and both times I was one of 3 reviewers, so I am not sure how common 5 reviewers is. Especially at a time when getting reviewers is sometimes a difficult task!

I had a great experience publishing there. Quick reviews (<3 months) that were also helpful. Editors seemed fine.
Once accepted, it was about a year to publication, if I recall correctly.

Got a reject within 3 months last semester. Two reviewers gave very good comments, one reviewer was grumpy, generic, and unhelpful. I made substantial revisions based on the comments I received and have it under review at a comparable journal.

Got a reject in slightly less than 2 months, with four helpful reviews. I would have guessed most reviewers, except one, suggested R&R, so I guess that it's not easy to get an R&R. Would definitely submit again.

Three months from submission to rejection. There were four reviews: Three offered very helpful substantive feedback; the other was basically an ideologically-infused rant from a reviewer with an axe to grind. Notwithstanding the last review, this was a great experience overall, as the comments from the other three reviews should help me improve this paper substantially. I definitely plan to submit to them again in the future.

Has anyone had bad experiences with this journal? My paper has been awaiting decision for four months now. I emailed them about it and did not receive a response.

I too have had a rough experience with this journal. I think things turned as their impact factor and rank increased. They can't seem to handle the number of submissions anymore. Waited 9 months for reviews (sat at "Awaiting Editor Decision) for 3 of those months. Emails don't receive response.

Same experience here. I am heading into my eighth month of my paper being under review. The online status is still 'awaiting reviewer scores' which I think is just terrible. I've reviewed for the journal several times and they give you about 5 or 6 weeks. Unacceptable.

My experience has been similar to that of the previous poster. Even if my manuscript is eventually accepted for publication, I definitely wouldn't consider sending anything there again until editorship changes hands. I've even considered withdrawing my manuscript, but the have to complete the initial review eventually...
