POST-DOCTORAL POSITIONS AVAILABLE
The Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI) of Qatar
University is pleased to announce the availability of two post-doctoral
research positions beginning in late 2012.
Scholars with a recent doctoral degree from a discipline in the social
sciences, public policy, economics, or survey research methodology who
collect or make use of survey data in their research work are encouraged
to apply. Duties include: participating in the development, design and
implementation of national surveys in Qatar and comparative studies in
the Gulf region; data analysis; collaborating with SESRI and University
of Michigan's Institute for Social Research (ISR) scholars on research
projects of joint interest; development of presentations and
publications; collaborating on developing new research projects and
grant proposals; and participating in the intellectual life of the
Institute and University.
These are full-time positions for the period of one year each, with the
possibility of a one-year renewal upon mutual agreement. There is some
flexibility in the start date, but the appointments cannot begin before
September 1, 2012.
Compensation includes a competitive salary, which is tax-free in Qatar
(but persons will still be responsible for any applicable taxes from
their country of origin), along with a generous fringe benefits package
that includes health insurance. Furnished housing is also provided at
no additional cost outside of expenses such as utilities, cable, and
Internet access. Post-doctoral appointments enjoy the same holidays and
vacation benefits as other research academic appointments at Qatar
University, including 35 calendar days of vacation annually. Applicants
will have their flight and moving expenses paid for at the beginning and
end of their appointment, as well as one round-trip flight home
annually. Educational allowances for up to three accompanying children
are also available. Funds will also be available to attend one or two
relevant professional conferences during each year of the appointment
period.
Interested candidates should send their application materials
electronically by email to the Director of SESRI, Dr. Darwish Al-Emadi
(sesri@qu.edu.qa) and to David Howell (dahowell@umich.edu)
Applications will be acknowledged upon receipt.
Applications should contain all of the following materials: a cover
letter of no more than one page in length, an up-to-date CV, a statement
of research interests of no more than five pages in length, a letter of
recommendation from someone who is familiar with your research work, and
the contact information for three professional references.
The deadline for applications is May 31, 2012.
