The recently formed Behavioral Health and Research program at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB Health) invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in behavioral health research. Candidates should have a
strong interest in research on women’s and/or adolescent health (intimate partner violence, substance use, health risk behaviors).
Current research opportunities include NIH-funded projects on teen dating violence (Temple) and adolescent weight-related behaviors (van den Berg), as well as studies examining chronic
pelvic pain, sexual functioning, and sleep disorders. The selected fellow will spend a majority of time on research-related activities (authoring manuscripts, writing grants, assisting in data management/analysis).
Candidates pursuing or with doctoral level degrees in psychology, epidemiology, public health, health behavior, communication, sociology, and related fields are invited to apply. Competitive applicants will have 1) a strong interest in pursuing
an academic career, 2) prior experience in all phases of the research process, and 3) strong skills in managing/analyzing data. (If applicable, clinical duties will also be available).
The Behavioral Health and Research program is housed within UTMB’s Department of Ob/Gyn, which is nationally ranked in the top 10 for NIH funding. UTMB Health, one of the oldest academic health centers in the nation, is part of the world famous Texas Medical Center and is located on the Texas coast just south of Houston.
