I haven't heard anything. What makes you think it was cancelled?

I received this email yesterday:
"Because you applied for the Assistant Professor of Sociology or Geography position (which was put on hold this year) and because you have qualifications in sociology, I’m writing to ask if you are interested in teaching sociology courses in fall 2012 and spring 2013 semesters at Truman State University..."
They are looking for a non-benefited adjunct to cover three or four classes at $1000-$1200 per credit hour.

I understand that there is context here, and perhaps I am being too harsh...but I would tell them to kick rocks if you are financially able.
They are not unique in their participation, willingly or unwillingly, in the continued devaluation of academic teaching, either. They are just the latest.

No doubt the pay is crap, but for what its worth it is actually better than what several very large urban universities pay in the NE where the cost of living is double (at minimum) that of rural Missouri. Just thought I'd throw that out there....
I'm not sure who ultimately makes the decision to hire adjuncts over full-time VAPs, but departments and universities that elect to do the former (especially on a recurrent basis) should be ashamed of themselves.

Yes, the adjunct pay when you factor in cost of living is better than in the NE. But it's still adjunct pay, which means it doesn't even constitute a living wage for those who have a family.
