I was invited straight to a campus interview after ES.

Now that the fall job market season is over and most of the the schools that interviewed at ASA have filled their positions, would anyone be willing to comment on whether they think ES was important to who got the jobs? Have heard very mixed opinions about ES and whether it even makes sense to exist.

I did not get a job from ES but I did get several (4-5) phone/Skype/campus interviews after doing ES. It won't hurt you to do, unless you're a jerk. It's also good practice, and they ask you many of the same questions you'll be asked later in a phone interview so you can learn what each school is specifically "looking" for and tailor your cover letter better. If you are dedicated to only getting a R1 job, ES is probably not for you.

I agree. I also not get a job from ES, but the quick interviews are great practice for phone interviews. If you sign up for ES, make sure you are proactive and reach out to schools with positions listed.

Yes, you absolutely must contact the schools, they will not contact you. Rookie mistake many people make.

phone interview but that was about it. It did help me settle into the job market though. Speaking with potential employers helped me become more confident in myself and who I am as a scholar.
