I've heard that things have changed recently, but here's my experience from about 2-3 years ago:
A little over 6 months to getting an R&R. Reviewers and editor focused mostly on robustness of findings. We did a bunch of additional stuff to answer to that. Close to about 8 months to final decision (reject) after resubmit. The ultimate reasons for the rejection were pretty fair, but they were not what the editor had highlighted after the first set of reviews (we could only guess as to whether the reviewers were the same). So on the negative side, my co-authors felt that the review times were a bit too long, and that the editor either didn't do an adequate job at highlighting what needed to be done for publication or was too sensitive to criticism not brought up in the first round of reviews. On the positive side, we appreciated the fact that we didn't get stuck in endless R&R hell. That paper has since been accepted at a specialist publication of similar impact factor.
As an aside, at the time they were also very strict about length limits and there was no way to submit stuff for an electronic appendix to supplement the text, but I've heard that that has changed (but have not verified it myself).

I review a lot for SF. They ask for reviews in four weeks, decisions come within 6-12. I haven't seen much qualitative work.

There is already a social forces thread. I propose to delete this duplicate thread.

For what it's worth, I sent them a manuscript two months ago and it is still "Awaiting Reviewer Assignment".

The site says that the 10k word limit includes text, endnotes, and references, but does not say it includes tables, and they say you can have a max of 10 tables. Does that mean tables are not included in the word count? Any experiences?
Also, the email link for the assistant to the editor does not work but seems to be sf.editorialoffice@oup.com. Is that correct?

It’s been a month since first submission and my paper’s status is still “awaiting reviewer assignment”. Is this normal? It was awaiting reviewer invitation for a day or two, and then turned into awaiting reviewer assignment and stayed in this state for more than a week.

Not sure about social forces but I have had the same experience with other journals multiple times. Some journals take more than 2-3 months in this stage.
